Longshots To Win 2024 Masters

There are number of longshots for those that like to bet on the underdog. Odds on these contenders will see a rather large payout should they finish in top position.

  • Neal Shipley : Youngest to make the cut at 22 years old, Shipley punched his ticket to the Masters while working towards his college degree at the university of Ohio State! The books have him at +100000 to win.
  • Nicolai Højgaard : Another youngster to watch closely, Højgaard is only 23 and making his debut appearance in the Masters Open as well as looking to become the first Danish winner. He won the European Tour in 2021 and 2022 and secured a place in the 2023 Ryder Cup making him a decent pick at +15000.
  • Fred Couples : At the ripe young age of 63, Fred Couples was oldest player to make the cut last year. Could his illustrious career on the PGA tour be coupled with a Masters victory? It's a serious longshot at +150000.

Canadian Contenders and How They Might Fare

If you're looking to support your fellow Canucks, there are four contenders that deserve some attention and are worth considering placing a bet on.

  • Nick Taylor : Currently placed at +2200 to finish in the Masters top 5, this will be Taylor's second appearance having made his debut in 2020. Odds for him to finish in the top 10 are +1000 and +333 to place in the first twenty.
  • Adam Hadwin : With three previous Masters attempts, Hadwin has odds of +1100 to finish in the top 5, +375 to finish in the top 10, +180 to finish in the top 20.
  • Corey Conners : Conners is a two-time PGA Tour Winner and is currently +1200 to finish in the top 5. His odds for being within the first ten are +500 and +190 in the top 20. He has recorded three top 10 finishes in a row from 2020 to 2022.
  • Mike Weir : Weir won the Masters Green Jacket in 2003 but has missed the cut in eleven our of fourteen of his last appearances leaving him with odds of +11000 to finish in the top 5, +2200 in top 10, +850 top 20.

A Deeper Look at the Favourites

Scottie Scheffler is the prohibitive favorite but he will have be on top of his game to hold off a slew of great golfers.

Rahm is a huge hitter and a sharp putter, but he has not dominated on the LIV Tour. He has shown he can handle the pressure at the biggest events, having won the Masters in 2023.

McIlroy has not been at his best this season as he aims for his first Green Jacket. If he succeeds it will see him complete the Grand Slam. He ranks 43rd on the PGA Tour money list with slightly more than $1.4 million in. Rory has just one top-10 finish in the six events he has entered.

McIlroy remains one of the biggest hitters on the tour and his remarkable power is his most obvious strength. He is averaging 312.2 yards off the tee - ranking fourth on the PGA Tour.

The question is whether he can put four rounds together. He has struggled to follow up a four-under par round with another one. Instead, that follow-up round is one that results in laden with bogeys and has often driven him out of contention.

McIlroy believes his understanding of the tournament makes him a good candidate and gives him a strong run at Augusta National. "This golf course gets you to chase things a little more than other courses, if you make a bogey or if you get yourself out of position, because it always tempts you to do something you think you can do," McIlroy said.

Schauffele has been close multiple times this season and he believes that he has the game to give him a legitimate chance to come through when the money is on the table and the golf world is focused on the fourth and final round on Sunday.

His accuracy with his irons and his ability to string birdie putts together has given him the ability to make a run at the title. "As many dreams ... as I can have wearing a green jacket or someone putting it on me on the 18th green, that's what I try and envision," Schauffele said Monday.

Koepka is another golfer who is steaming to win his first Masters title. Koepka began the final day of last year's Masters with a four-stroke lead and one arm slipped into the green jacket.

However, he shot 75 in the final round and had to watch Rahm win the championship. Koepka has been living with this for a full year and he gets to see if he has the stuff to show off his talent in the final round.

While most golfers who have had a failure like that in the final round can be accused of having a lack of strength at the most crucial moment, that is not the case with Koepka. He has five major championships to his credit, including three PGA Championships and two U.S. Opens.

He is as strong mentally as anyone on either tour. He is likely to be in contention throughout all four rounds of the tournament.

As you can see, there is some stiff competition for the Masters Open 2024 and if the betting odds are anything to go by, it's going to be close at the top with Scheffler followed by McIlroy or Rahm.
